Easy homemade gluten free dog treats that can be made using only 4 ingredients in your own kitchen.
Have you tried countless brands of dog treats only to result in your dog licking at their paws, scratching endlessly, or with smelly yeasty ears?
That was us until I decided not to over-spend on treats that only irritate and send our dogs into digestive imbalance.
Why Bother Making Homemade Dog Treats?
Many dogs cannot digest the highly processed ingredients that are in most brands of commercial dog treats.
Wheat flour can cause an over production of yeast that builds up under the skin leaving paws appearing a reddish-brown, scratching the skin raw, and dark build up in the ears, all which leaves your dog smelly and very uncomfortable.
This recipe is simple enough to invite your little ones to give you a hand!
Homemade Gluten Free Dog Treats Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups Coconut Flour (I use Bob’s Red Mill Organic Coconut Flour)
- 2 tablespoons Better Than Bouillon paste, Chicken or Beef
- 2 Large Eggs
- 15 ounces Pumpkin Puree
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk your eggs and Better Than Bouillon until completely combined.
Add pumpkin puree to the egg mixture and stir until fully incorporated.
Lastly, add the coconut flour to your wet ingredients and use a wooden spoon to mix. Your mixture will be a bit sticky but will hold together nicely to form a dough.
Lightly flour your surface, hands, and a rolling pin. Roll the dough out evenly into 1/4 inch thickness.
Use a cookie cutter to press out treat portions.
Lift treats up with a spatula and place onto your parchment cookie sheets spacing 1/2 inch apart.
Repeat steps 7, 8, and 9 with excess dough until you’ve used it all.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes, then reduce heat to 200° for 30 minutes until the center is firm.
Let your dog treats cool completely before serving.
Storing Your Treats to Stay Fresh
Store in an air-tight container or a ziplock bag at room temperature for up to 14 days. Our treats never last that long with our two dogs!
