No Bake Chocolate Cheerio Bars
Last Updated on May 30, 2026 by Kiersten James
Easy no bake chocolate Cheerio bars made with only four ingredients. They’re quick to make and perfect for lunchboxes or after-school snacks.

Well…my husband talked me into posting this recipe. I wasn’t going to because I thought it was embarrassingly simple and not actually even a real recipe.
Nevertheless, I was convinced that other kids would love these no bake chocolate Cheerio bars, so here we are.
My kids absolutely love them because they taste like a candy bar crossed with a cereal treat, and I love them because they take about ten minutes to make from start to finish.
There’s no baking, no mixer, and no waiting for butter to soften. Melt everything together, stir in the Cheerios, press the mixture into a pan, and let it cool.
They’re perfect for after-school snacks, lunchboxes, toddler playdates or parties, bake sales, or summer afternoons when the kids are asking for something sweet and you don’t feel like turning on the oven.
If you’re looking for an easy treat for kids made with Cheerios that disappears fast, make these.

A Note About Corn Syrup
I know some of my long-time readers (who, by now, likely know me better than I know myself!) may be surprised to see corn syrup in this recipe, especially on a naturalish living blog.
I get it. Let me explain.
Light corn syrup is not the same thing as high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).
Regular corn syrup is primarily glucose and is used in recipes like this (and my sugar cookie icing that hardens) because it creates a smooth texture and helps hold everything together without becoming grainy.
Do I use corn syrup every day?
No. But I also don’t believe every homemade treat needs to be made with specialty ingredients.
These chocolate Cheerio bars are an occasional treat at our house, and for this recipe, light corn syrup gives the best texture and results.
Sometimes an old-fashioned recipe works because the original ingredient does exactly what it’s supposed to do. This is the same reason why I still use shortening in some of my recipes, and canned condensed soup in others.
At the end of the day, I’m just a regular mom trying my best to make things work on a limited budget and time reserve.

Why You’ll Love These Chocolate Cheerio Bars
- No baking or hot ovens to deal with
- Only 4 ingredients
- Ready in minutes (literally)
- Great for lunchboxes
- Perfect after-school snack
- Budget-friendly
Ingredient Highlights:
Light Corn Syrup: Corn syrup holds everything together and gives these bars their chewy texture. It also keeps the chocolate mixture smooth and easy to coat the cereal.
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: The chocolate is the main flavor here. Semi-sweet chips keep the bars sweet without becoming overwhelming.
Vanilla Extract: Just a little vanilla rounds out the chocolate flavor and makes the bars taste more homemade.
Cheerios: Plain Cheerios provide the crunch and structure. They stay crisp even after being coated in the chocolate mixture.

Tips for the Best Results
- Don’t overheat the chocolate. Once the syrup comes to a boil, remove it from the heat before adding the chocolate chips.
- Press the mixture firmly into the pan so the bars hold together when sliced.
- For cleaner cuts, let the bars cool completely before slicing.
- If your kitchen is warm, place the pan in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes before cutting.
