Make this DIY teething gel with chamomile, coconut oil, and food-grade aloe vera gel to help soothe sore gums and reduce inflammation in teething babies and toddlers.

Teething is the worst – for both babies and parents. The discomfort, drooling, restless nights, rashes, and constant irritability can make everyone feel exhausted and on edge.
Even though plenty of over-the-counter teething gels are available at every drug store, many contain artificial ingredients, numbing agents, or preservatives.
The good news is that you can very easily make a gentle, natural chamomile teething gel at home.
I’ve been making this one along with homemade teething balm and clove tea for more than 6 years. When several different remedies are used together, the success rate for pain relief from teething is very high.
This chamomile teething gel is safe for babies 6 months and older.
Chamomile for Teething
Chamomile has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for pain and inflammation making it a popular choice for teething pain. It has mild sedative properties which helps calm uncomfortable babies and encourage them to rest.
Benefits of chamomile for teething:
- Natural anti-inflammatory properties soothe swollen gums
- Offers gentle pain relief without the risks of numbing agents
- Helps calm babies who are extra irritable
- Safe for frequent daily use
Is Chamomile Safe for Babies?
Chamomile is safe and well tolerated for babies over 6 months old, but some may have sensitivities to certain herbs. If your baby has a ragweed allergy, avoid chamomile as it belongs to the same plant family.
DIY Chamomile Teething Gel
A strong chamomile tea is combined with coconut oil and food-grade aloe vera to create a cooling, soothing remedy that’s easy to apply and completely natural.
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon dried chamomile flowers, or 2 tea bags of chamomile tea
- 4 ounces of filtered water
- 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel (pure, food-grade only – usually found as a dietary supplement in the vitamin section)
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Instructions:
Brew 4oz of chamomile tea using 1 teaspoon dried chamomile flowers or 1-2 chamomile tea bags. Let steep for 10-15 minutes to ensure a strong infusion. Allow the tea to cool completely.

In a small bowl, mix 4 tablespoons of chamomile tea with 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel, and 1 teaspoon coconut oil.
Transfer the mixture into a clean tin and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
How to Use the Teething Gel

Using clean hands or a soft baby toothbrush, gently rub a small amount of gel onto your baby’s gums as needed throughout the day.
For extra cooling relief, store the teething gel in the refrigerator and apply it cold. The cold temperature will ease pain and numb sore gums naturally.
If your baby is frantically chewing and pressure is soothing to them, dip a clean washcloth in the gel, freeze it for a few minutes, and let them chew on it for soothing relief.
