This easy homemade buffalo sauce from scratch takes no time to prepare and is an excellent pairing for wings, chicken tenders, pizza, or for dipping!

My husband will co-sign on the fact that buffalo sauce is hands down my most favorite condiment on the planet. From the crappiest bottled version to this next level buffalo sauce, I’m always a happy camper.
Even though I’ve tried a dozen or so recipes to make homemade buffalo sauce from scratch, this was the keeper because no matter how many times I make it – or others make it whom I’ve shared this with – the results are always consistent in both flavor and sauce thickness.
How We Use Homemade Buffalo Sauce
On literally everything! Obviously the first thing that comes to mind are these crispy oven baked wings that we always make for parties and cookouts.
I also have been known to dip french fries or cut veggies into the sauce or drizzle it across a quick sourdough discard skillet pizza on a busy weeknight.
Homemade Buffalo Sauce (From Scratch) Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/3 cup franks original hot sauce
- 1 stick of salted butter
- 3 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon cayenne (or more to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
Melt the butter over low heat in a small pot on the stove.
Add all other ingredients and raise the heat to medium. Whisk frequently until the mixture begins to steam and comes to a low simmer.

Reduce heat back down to the lowest setting. Allow the sauce to simmer and thicken for 10 to 15 minutes.
Serve immediately or transfer to a clear jar for storage in the refrigerator.

Storage & Shelf Life
Homemade buffalo sauce will keep well for up to 4 weeks. The sauce tastes best if warmed before using. This can be done in the microwave or on the stovetop.
